Prudence “Pru”
Our 8 year old beautiful Great Dane Pru was taken to the emergency vet hospital locally last night around 8pm, with the help of a great friend we were able to carry her in a blanket to the car. I came home after work (Jay was away for business) and she was unable to lift her self to stand. We were told about 10 months ago that she had hip dysplasia and that this day would come, but not this soon.
After a series of tests to rule out possible causes it is most likely to be Wobblers Disease. which is malformation of the vertebrae near or at the neck and affects the spinal column, thus restricting nerves and causing neurological problems. There is a test to determine if in fact it is Wobblers, but that test is $2000 and if it was determined to be Wobblers, the surgery would be an additional $6000 or more. She is currently comfortable resting and has been receiving medication all day as well as steroids to reduce the inflammation and swelling.
We are torn up with sadness and very hurt with this sudden decline in her health, but given her age, the further monetary obligation, and our home being on the 5th floor we will most likely need to let her go.
Jay will arrive home sometime tomorrow and will go right to the hospital to see her for a few hours and we will decide what is best for her.
Thank you and Pru thanks you for all your love over the years. We LOVE HER VERY MUCH and will miss her oh so much! I know everyone says this- but she is a very sweet and wonderful dog.

added July 11th: Jays facebook status: ”At 6:55 pm we said goodbye to our best girl as she slipped quietly and peacefully away in my arms. We will never forget your Pru. You were our heart.” Here is a link to a slide show Jay made.

Darin Visit/Mama Judi Thanksgiving
So much has happened since the Red Sox won the World Series in which I wrote about in my last blog (see below).
Darin (DSLY the Style Guy) came for a visit right before Halloween and incidentally Jay’s birthday week. It was a fun time and always a good time when friends come visit us. Dinners out and daytime shopping with Jay, a short drive up the north shore to Salem for the annual Festival of The Dead, and the occasional evening spin around the dance floor.
I flew back to St. Louis again to make my greatest clients hair look beautiful for another 6 weeks. Thanks so much to Christopher Phillips who allowed me to use his salon space out of Metro Hair Designs at 170 and Delmar. It was a joy to see everyone back in St. Louis and I will be returning during Christmas.
I now work part time at Restoration Hardware for the holidays, but the wonderful youthful female manager has asked me to “stay forever”. I love the products and it also helps me to interact more by meeting more people and by getting out of the house and salon.
Mama Judi (Jay’s mom) just left Boston from her first ever trip to the Northeast. She had a wonderful time and even had a wish come true; to see snow fall. Jay and her had most of the time together as I was working allot. I know they did the duck tour, Faneuil Hall, Newbury Street, and various bars and dinning places. I actually had a bit of time one day to join them in Cambridge as we tasted Burdick’s famous hot chocolate, shopped at Harvard Square and walked through the campus of Harvard University. I want to soon go to the Museum there. She made us a very nice and tasty thanksgiving dinner so the three of us enjoyed time that day. We even took a walk with Pru on that day, as it was unseasonable warm. You can see in the photo that we have no jackets on; See the Prudential building in the back? This is basically our front yard.
Take care..
